초전도 현상은 양자 현상이 거시적으로 관찰되는 유일하고 흥미로운 현상이다. 초전도체가 가지는 특이 한 전기적, 자기적, 양자 특성으로 인해 그 응용분야는 무궁무진하다. 초전도 연구실에서는 다양한 초전 도체를 제작하고 초전도 특성을 비롯한 다양한 물성에 대해 연구한다. 특히 전력분야 응용을 위한 전류 수송 능력 향상을 위해 자기소용돌이 거동에 대해 집중적으로 연구하고 있다.
- ReBCO (Re=rare earth) 고온초전도 박막 자속고정특성 향상 연구
ReBCO 고온초전도체는 YBCO에 비해 임계온도가 높고 자기장하에서의 임계전류밀도 특성이 좋아서 전력 응용에 활용도가 크다. 구조적 이방성이 커서 박막 형태로 제작하였을 때 임계전류밀도를 비롯한 초전도 특성의 극대화를 얻을 수 있다. 2계 초전도체의 특성상 적절한 자속고정중심이 존재하는 경우 임계전류밀도와 임계자기장을 증가시킬 수 있으므로 다양한 형태의 인공 자속고정중심을 첨가하는 연구가 진행되고 있다.

(2)LaSrMnO3 완충층을 이용한 인공자속고정 특성 향상
- MgB2 박막의 완충층 개발
비교적 최근에 초전도성이 발견된 MgB2 초전도체는 간단한 구조를 가지고 있어 제조에 용이하지만 임계온도가 ~ 40K 에 이르러 의료부분을 포함한 응용 분야가 확대되고 있다. 간단한 구조에 비해 Fermi surface는 2개의 superconducting gap과 2개의 superconducting band를 가진 복잡한 형태를 하고 있으며 2종 초전도체에 속한다. 두개의 superconducting band에 선택적 도핑을 통해 초전도성을 조절할 수 있는 특징을 가진다. 구조적 이방성이 있어서 박막 형태로 제작하면 임계전류밀도를 포함한 초전도 특성이 매우 향상되고 전력응용을 위해 유연성이 있는 금속기판위에 박막 형태로 제작하기 위해서는 박리 및 금속의 초전도 침투 방지등을 위한 적절한 완충층의 개발이 필수적이다.
- Bi-based high-temperature superconductor (Bi-2223)
Bi계 초전도체(BiSrCaCuO)는 초전도 현상을 주도하는 CuO2 평면의 개수에 따라 구조적 이방성이 증가하며 동시에 임계온도가 증가하여 Bi-2201은 50 K, Bi-2212는 70 K, Bi-2223 는 ~100 K 의 임계온도를 갖는다. 액체질소 온도 이상의 임계온도를 갖는 Bi-2223가 응용성에서 가장 큰 관심의 대상이며 적절한 자속고정중심을 첨가하여 자속고정 특성을 향상시키는 연구가 진행되고 있다.
본 연구실에서는 알칼리 금속 첨가에 의한 초전도성 향상과 초전도성 변화를 이해하기 위해 XAS(X-ray Absorption spectroscopy)를 이용한 local structure 에 대한 연구를 수행하고 있다.
